How a Furniture Rental Company Transformed Its Supply Chain Planning

The client wanted to change how it forecasts demand, plans production and manages inventory. Parkar worked alongside its teams, using the ERP already in place.

The business

Our client is a national furniture rental company based in the Midwest. It makes, rents and delivers its own furniture to homes, offices, events and home staging projects from 15 locations. Its mission is to get the right furniture to each customer on the agreed day, with its own team of 100 drivers.

The challenge

Planning across four businesses

Demand varies by business

Residential, office, events and home staging each have their own busy periods, and all four use the same stock.

Furniture is always moving

Each piece goes from the plant to a location, out to a customer and back again.

The ERP held the data

The planning, inventory and delivery teams wanted it set up around the decisions they make each week.

One plan from plant to customer

The solution

How Parkar helped

  1. Review

Parkar studied how each team used the ERP and agreed on the changes that would help planning most.

  2. Improve the ERP

Parkar improved the ERP’s setup, data and processes so planners could rely on its numbers.

  3. Transform planning

Parkar worked with the client’s teams to change how they forecast demand, plan production and manage inventory. Planners forecast demand by business and location, and use those forecasts to set production and inventory plans.

  4. Schedule the fleet

Driver schedules use the same order and inventory data, so each truck is loaded for the day’s deliveries.

  5. Support

Parkar supports the ERP and the systems connected to it.
